2012-06-10 21:49

AND RACE WINNER NO.7 IS…: McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton earns his first race win of the 2012 season and is the seventh different race winner in as many races.

MONTREAL, Canada - McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton magnificent win at the Canadian Grand Prix has made the McLaren ace the seventh different race winner in as many races.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton magnificent win at the Canadian Grand Prix has made the McLaren ace the seventh different race winner in as many races.

Hamilton produced a superbly judged race to wipe away all fears hanging over the event after a weekend of student protests and police action to seize his first win of the 2012 season.

His triumph came five years after he had claimed his maiden Formula 1 victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Hamilton victory, the 18th in his career, has pulled him back into contention for the drivers' title in 2012.

He now leads the standings with 88 points.

Lotus’ Romain Grosjean finished in second ahead of third-placed Sauber’s Sergio Perez.

Red Bull’s defending double world champion Sebastian Vettel finished fourth after a late second pit stop ahead of two-time champion Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and sixth-placed Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg.

Red Bull’s Mark Webber was seventh ahead of Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen and Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi.

Hamilton said: "Well done you guys, thank you, thank you."
The race went ahead against a backdrop of increased security as police sought to prevent student demonstrators disrupting the event to bring attention to their bitter tuition fee battle.

On June 9, night shield-wielding riot police had pushed back and chased hundreds of protesters amassed in the downtown shopping district, arresting at least 28 people and pushing several protesters, some in masks, to the ground.
