Naamsa released the national sales figures for March 2020, but the relaying of that information is somewhat different than what we have come to expect.
For March, Naamsa only released aggregate sales figures and not the individual sales figures; as has been the case the last few years.
Speaking on the matter, Naamsa said that it’s currently renovating its data management offering to the market. It also plans to introduce a number of value adding services that will be announced shortly.
How they stack up
Naamsa only released the total sales figures for each manufacturer in South Africa. Given that the Covid-19 pandemic has swept over SA as well, sales figures are, expectedly, low.
Toyota sold a total of 8715 new vehicles, followed by Volkswagen (5499 units) and Nissan (2775 units). Ford managed to sell 2667 new vehicles last month.
Lower down the list Suzuki managed to maintain its top-10 run with 1249 units sold, ahead of Isuzu on 1224 (units). Kia rounds out the top ten on 1003 units.

Lebogang Gaoaketse, head of marketing and communication at WesBank, said: "The market was looking to establish some form of stability judging from February’s performance, only to be undone by the Covid-19 global pandemic. Looking at international markets already under lockdown, we can expect April to look even worse as consumers stay home and only essential services are delivered from dealer workshops."
Last month, a total of 37 821 new vehicles were sold in SA at an average finance value of R329 168.
