The first week of school is done and dusted, which means that it's a perfect time to call up some friends and find out how their week went.

These boys started a new chapter in their school career, entering a new realm. And they have already been met by the challenges Grade 8 can bring compared to the safety of primary education. For the boys in question, the week started slowly, and a bit rough, but then it picked up some steam. Why? Because we brought the Ford Ranger Raptor into the equation.

The Raptor is the top-of-the-range model in Ford's Ranger line-up, and it comes with quite a presence to make itself known. For these boys, their first week at a new school took a completely different turn after the episode in the Raptor. Now they were the ones with presence!

Our 'testers' were left quite impressed by the Ranger Raptor and could not stop talking about its capabilities. Especially the Baja mode, which loosens the rear for a bit of fun in the sand. When we initially put our plan into action, we forgot that Afrikaans is their first language, but we've made it work with English subtitles. Their expression and innocence resonate as they discuss life, and this lekker bakkie. Regardless of the language, we can all relate to how they felt when this special surprise came their way.

We're just glad that this little collaboration between Wheels24 and Ford SA could shine some light upon their lives.

Wheels24 editor, Janine Van der Post, says: A couple of these boys have been through terrible hardships for their tender age, bullied too. So seeing their faces light up when we picked them up in the Raptor makes your heart melt like a marshmallow over a fire. It also made me realise how much children go through at their age, things we don't even think of. One of the boys said in our video how lonely he was on his first day, how no one spoke to him. And then, after he was dropped off in the Raptor, everyone wanted to be his friend. I hope this bakkie will be the foundation to an ever-lasting friendship for them.

We also took several other children to school, including a new Grade 8 scholar and her friend. We picked them up on their first day, and they kept saying how nervous they were and couldn't sleep the night before. The little girl's mom also shared how restless her daughter was during the first few days of the week. But then when the Raptor pulled up, nothing could wipe the grins off their faces, and any nerves went right out the window.

One of the girls said: "It was fun riding in the big Ford bakkie, especially when I came home from school after my first day. It was a very hot day, but the aircon was so nice and cold. I immediately cooled off and was happy again after a super first long day at school. I felt so awesome riding in the Raptor; it's just so big and menacing. One day when I'm older, I want a big bakkie like this, especially in that blue colour!"
