What was meant to be an exciting bucket-list track in the new iteration of the evergreen Toyota Fortuner on a mini-sabbatical, ends up as a memorable trip at the Karoo Stilte 4x4 trails, writes our News24 Motoring off-road contributor Nick Yell.

The plan was to take ourselves and the new iteration of the evergreen Toyota Fortuner (2.8 GD6 4x4 AT VX) on a mini-sabbatical and sneak in a bucket-list 4x4 track, the *Grade 3+ Pienaar's Pass in the Karoo National Park (KNP), while there.

But, as has happened to me four times before, we find it closed - due to damage from unseasonal heavy rains.
