The Toyota Land Cruiser 200 came out on top in November 2018 for large luxury SUV sales, amassing 85 units sold to the second-placed Range Rover/RR Sport’s 84 units.

This is one of the tightest battles for category honours between these two behemoths this year, but nowhere near sales figures accumulated earlier this year.

The Toyota Prado sits in a lonely third place with 68 units sold last month.

Big hitters

Land Rover’s Discovery, launched locally in 2017, moves into fourth place with 47 units sold, followed by its cousin, the Range Rover Velar, on 38 units. Jaguar’s F-Pace sold off 34 units and Volkswagen managed to get the deal on 30 new Touareg owners.

In eighth place is a former South African Car of the Year champion, the Volvo XC90, with 22 units sold, just ahead of the Audi Q7 on 18 units.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee rounds out the top ten on 17 units.

Volvo takes a sweep

Volvo’s highly acclaimed XC60 was the top-selling SUV in the category for medium-sized luxury SUVs, ending November 2018 on a massive 117 units sold. It beat both the Audi Q7 (75 units) and Volvo XC40 (71 units) by almost 40 units to go top of the log, unattested.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport, despite being perhaps the most senior SUV in this company, also fills the fourth position like its big brother in the above category. It closed the month on 58 units sold. Audi’s Q3 did well in fifth place with 45 units, while the Jaguar E-Pace managed to find 43 signatures.

The Range Rover Evoque sold 31 units, followed by the Lexus NX (13 units) and Lexus RX (10 units) in eighth and ninth place, respectively. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio ended the month on four units.
