Cape Town - Despite their relatively steep cost, hundreds of luxury SUVs are sold each month in South Africa.

Some luxury SUVs retail for more than R1-million, this against a backdrop declining overall local vehicle sales.

Solid sales despite declines

“Domestically, the short to medium term outlook remained extremely challenging.  Double digit new vehicle price inflation, pressure on household disposable incomes, low levels of business confidence and relatively high interest rates would continue to impact negatively on new vehicle sales,” reports report National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa).

SUVs stacking up

The BMW X5 continued its trend as the best-selling luxury SUV in SA with 175 units sold in October. The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (87 units) and Range Rover/Range Rover Sport (68) were the second and third best-sellers respectively.

Having been in SA for only a few months, the Jaguar F-Pace settled into a comfortable fourth position with 46 units finding new owners. The F-Pace was also Jaguar SA's best-selling vehicle for October!
