Nissan and Porsche have been at loggerheads since 2007, after their spat about Nurburgring lap times.
What started as friendly banter over Nurburgring lap times those few years ago quickly germinated into a game of statistical grandstanding between the Yokohama and Zuffenhausen.
In the last few months things have been entirely civil, with neither the GT-R or 911 Turbo’s engineers releasing any baiting information.
Then, on Thursday, Nissan disturbed the peace again when it released the numbers of some acceleration tests completed with the new GT-R a few weeks ago.
NUMBERS DON'T LIE
Nissan’s facelifted GT-R, first shown at the Paris auto show back in September, is credited with a peak power output of 384kW from its twin-turbo, 3.8-litre V6. That's 27kW more than the GT-R, launched back in 2007.
Nissan’s representatives at the Paris show were quite coy about claimed acceleration and performance figures; now they're out and, yes, they're quicker than its arch-rival, Porsche's 911 Turbo.
Nissan took the facelifted GT-R to the Sendai Hi-land circuit in Japan during the second weekend of November for timed acceleration runs. Running stock Dunlop SP sport tyres and with all discretionary vehicle settings turned to ‘R’ mode, the new GT-R ran a best 0-100km/h of three seconds dead, 0.3sec quicker than Porsche’s 911 Turbo S...
Engineers love numbers, yet somehow we expect Porsche’s technical department is hardly going to have a very pleasant weekend after this latest salvo of one-upmanship from Nissan.
