Kia's little Picanto has come a long way since being introduced in South Africa in 2004. Now the Korean carmaker is planning a radical makeover for its little city car... if the design sketches are anything to go by.
Kia has released the first official design sketches of its next generation Picanto and, compared to the current generation, looks rather futuristic.
SPY IMAGES
The new model has been styled by Kia’s European design team based in Frankfurt, Germany, under the direction of chief design officer, Peter Schreyer. In October 2010 our spies snapped up images of an early prototype version of the new model. Though heavily disguised, the new prototype still retained much of the current model with some notable changes to the little city car's profile.
Our spy shots showed the new model in five-door guise though Kia is considering building a cheaper three-door. We also expect the new model to carry many of the design features from the Sportage in its cabin.
DUE AT GENEVA
Under the bonnet, the new Picanto will receive the same one-litre petrol engine as the 2011 Hyundai i10.
Kia's next generation Picanto is set to be unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, 2011 and is set to go on sale early later that year.
