Spotted in SA: Opel’s little Adam

It pays to have an office overlooking one of SA’s prime advertising film spots. Wheels24 spotted Opel’s new city-slicker in Cape Town – the Adam. Check out our exclusive spy shots!

The 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show played host to number of important new Opel models, one of them the yet-to-be-confirmed for SA Adam hatchback.

We spotted the new city-slicker at a advertising shoot in Cape Town. General Motors SA confirmed that the Adam was being filmed in SA for European commercials.

Wheels24’s SERGIO DAVIDS captured images of the new model.

Exclusive images of the new Opel Adam in SA

Davids said: “The Adam is disarmingly cute up close, akin to a Fiat 500 or Citroen C3. It’s by far the most chic model Opel has yet produced. It's a funky city hatchback that could be quite a hit with students and twentysomethings.

“In our gallery images you’ll notice several trim options such as unique colours for the wheel rims, roofline and bonnet. The front gives it personality on the road though the boxy rear isn’t as impressive. The Adam looks particularly good in red.

“Trim levels are uprated compared to previous models such as the Corsa and Astra. A large multimedia screen and two-tone interior is a great touch, especially on the steering wheel. Much like a 500 though, the Adam’s rear appears quite cramped."

'WE DEFINITELY WANT IT"

The Adam is equipped with three conventional petrol engines – a 51kW 1.2, 64kW 1.4 and a 74kW, each mated to a five-speed manual.

General Motors SA said: “ The Adam has yet to be confirmed for South Africa though it's under consideration. We definitely want it but we’ll have to do the numbers first.”
