Iran has emerged as an unlikely and latest prospective destination for F1 racing.
The Mehr news agency said officials have decided to build a circuit 35km south of the capital Tehran, with Apex Circuit Design assigned the contract.
Apex's Martin Baerschmidt told Mehr that they would follow F1 rules and procedures in terms of building the track.
"Planning and construction would follow all F1 standards. We were really surprised after seeing the landscape," he said.
The circuit will be inaugurated within six months and will cost $85-million (about R606-million).
The project's executive manager Alireza Sabbagh said F1 has a great future in the country and it will get a following from young audiences.
"Iran has so many young people and there is an increasing tendency for them to drive."
