Used BMWs as good as new

During this time, BMW SA has sold 54 563 Approved Used vehicles.

Last year alone, Approved Used Cars logged a record 10 819 units sold, with the 2004 year to date figure already standing at 5 324 units.

"Our strategy has always remained to provide new car service and satisfaction levels to the used car market," said Pavla Benguric, Manager Approved Used Cars at BMW South Africa.

"We also believe that we have addressed all the perceived risks of previously owned vehicles by providing customers with peace of mind, reassurance and confidence in their purchases."

The South African Approved Used Car programme has also become the benchmark for BMW subsidiaries around the world, with several already implementing the concept.

As an additional benefit to customers and in an effort to ensure vehicle affordability, BMW South Africa has a range of selected models that are available at an interest rate of 5% below prime.

This scheme has recently been extended to include selected models of the current 3 Series range.

For additional convenience, there are currently 1 100 BMWs listed on the BMW Approved Used Car website.

They immediately have access to all the Approved Used Cars and can view options according to the model, price and colour.

Customers also have access to manufacturer approved previously owned MINIs that are listed on mini.co.za by dealers ? providing additional convenience for visitors to the website.

Stringent checks

BMW says that for used car buyers, an Approved Used Car now comes with the ultimate in driver reassurance - a series of stringent checks for performance, reliability and safety.

Every Approved Used Car has a full service history and is subjected to a comprehensive preparation and reconditioning process, comes with mileage verification, a vehicle history check, a Motorplan or Warranty.

All repairs are completed by manufacturer-trained technicians, who possess the necessary levels of competency and expertise to protect customers' investment. In addition, only genuine parts are fitted.

Every Approved Used BMW is sold with a minimum of 2 years/40 000 km balance of either Motorplan or Approved Used Mobility, which can be renewed to a maximum of 7 years or 200 000 km.

The Motorplan covers all repairs and services resulting from normal wear and tear, including top-up oils and brake fluid.

There have however been some recent revisions to Motorplan in order to be more relevant and responsive to owners driving needs and demands.

"Our research has shown that the majority of our customers seem to share our passion for advanced technology ? most do not keep their vehicles beyond six or seven years, rather choosing to upgrade to newer models.

"With this in mind, and since very few contracts are taken up beyond seven years, the maximum expiry date has been reduced to seven years. The maximum mileage will remain 200 000 km," said Benguric.

Total reassurance comes standard with every Approved Used Car in the form of BMW Group On Call emergency service and accident management.

This 24-hour, 365 days-a-year breakdown and recovery service ensures motoring peace of mind countrywide.

BMW's Approved Used Car programme incorporates a wide range of confident choices, from the MINI Cooper to the BMW 760 Li.
