Traffic fines to sting Joburg drivers

accreditation

After a month of the Johannesburg metro police's "Operation Bumble Bee", 147 671 people were caught on film speeding and 18 408 have been captured not stopping at red traffic lights, spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said.

Another 1 449 were arrested for outstanding traffic fines.

Minnaar said that the point of the operation was to reduce serious accidents and make the roads safer, in line with the Arrive Alive campaign.

"We have noticed over the six weeks of the operation a reduction by 13 percent of offences so people are starting to feel the effects of the operation," he said.
