As Wheels24 has revealed before, the new Freelander takes its styling cues from the latest Discovery 3, but sized down.

Although in many respects an evolution of the current Freelander, the new car will have the same slab-sided look as Disco 3, and will have a boxier rear end with larger light clusters.

The interior will also receive a serious upgrade with better quality materials and plastics.

The dashboard will house controls for a simplified version of the Disco's Terrain Response System.

At the same time the new Freelander will share its underpinnings with the next Mondeo, which means that the baby Landy will grow in size resulting in improved interior space.

Unlike the current Freelander range there will be no three-door version as Land Rover wants to move the model more upmarket.

Ford will supply the Freelander's engine range, which will especially good news for those wanting a V6, Ford's 3-litre unit being infinitely more refined than the ageing Rover 2.5 V6 in current models.
