- Compact SUV sporty drag race
- All three are powered by 2.0-litre turbocharged engines
- BMW boasts 225kW, the highest of the trio
The cars having a go in this drag race could be described as hot hatches on stilts. And as the performance SUV segment continues to expand, it's not only the upper-end that needs to be serviced.
Carmakers have spawned sporty versions of their compact SUVs too. The Audi SQ2, BMW X2 M35i and Volkswagen T-Roc R fit nicely into that niche. The team at Carwow gathered them for a drag race.
All three crossovers sport 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, power is sent to all paws and scoots off the line courtesy of launch control systems via their automatic transmissions.
The SQ2 produces 220kW and 400Nm, and a claimed 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds. The BMW X2 has the most power with 225kW and 450Nm with a claimed sprint run to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds.
The T-Roc R has 221kW and 400Nm and matches its cousin in the 0-100km/h claimed time of 4.8 seconds.
When it comes to weight, the VW Group products tip the scales at 1510kg and 1575kg, with the Bavarian X2 M35i the heftiest vehicle of the three at 1685 kg.
Carwow says: "It's time for another SUV drag race! Sure, they may not set the track alight like a Tesla Model X or an AMG G63, but these pocket rockets can still pack a punch!
"And let's face it, the Audi SQ2 is effectively an S3, the X2 is an M135i, and the T-Roc R is basically a Golf R."
