• Listen to some of the greatest supercars accelerating.

• The noise reminds the brain of a musical instrument says one theory.

• The list includes the Ferrari LeFerrari and the Lamborghini Huracan.

The most popular car posts on Instagram are that of supercars. From the sounds their engines make to the styling and latest technology crammed into them, everyone loves a supercar.

Perhaps what we love most though are the noises, particularly because supercars are powered by some of the world's most powerful engines. In turn they should sound good, right? We certainly miss the naturally-aspirated engines of the past and the rawness that they brought.

Modern supercars are now powered by smaller capacity engines aided by forced induction, but manufacturers have added artificial sound via a device called sound symposers that amplify the sound of the engine. In some cases it can be channeled through the speakers to create a louder experience in the cabin.

There's a theory that reckons humans love the sound of a supercar accelerating is that it reminds the brain of a musical instrument, says Vanarama.

Vanarama wanted to celebrate some of the greatest car sounds of the 21st century by visualising their rapid acceleration throughout the gears.

The selection of cars is mouth-watering, from the hybrid-powered Ferrari LaFerrari to the McLaren Senna. The one car on the list below that is powered a normally-aspirated engine is the Lamborghini Huracan with its 5.2-litre V10.

It's arguably one of the best sounding engines ever made. You can listen to all those cars and more accelerating in the post below.

The cars they've covered include:

Ferrari LaFerrari

Pagani Huayra

McLaren Senna

Lamborghini Huracan

Hennessey Venom GT

Ford GT
