With four championships, 72 race wins, and 139 podium places between Aryton Senna and Nigel Mansell the duo's names remain entrenched in Formula 1.
Senna, driving for McLaren at the time, was ,of course, the more prolific with three world championship crowns to his name, but Mansell had a reputation as one of the most fearless and talented overtakers in the sport.
At the sixth round of the 1992 world championship in glitzy Monaco on the French Riviera, Mansell in the Renault-powered Williams took pole position with teammate Ricardo Patrese in second and Senna starting in third.
Incident filled race
The race is littered with incidents such as a young Michael Schumacher and Jean Alesi crashing on lap 12. But the GP will be remembered for the intense battle for the lead between Senna and Mansell.
A wheel nut came loose on Mansell's Williams, and he pitted to sort it out. This meant Senna could take the lead and so the battle ensued. The British driver hounded the Brazilian around the tight street circuit.
Mansell went onto to win his only world championship in 1992 after which he moved to the United States and won the CART Indy Car World Series.
Senna moved to Williams in 1994 during which he lost his life at the San Marino GP.
