DA explains job seekers grant as it announces party's economic policy

The DA plans to put in place job seekers' grants and do away with the R350 monthly social relief of distress (SRD) grant if it is put in power - but it says the move will only be viable as long as there is economic growth and sufficient tax revenue to fund it.

On Friday, DA leader John Steenhuisen announced the party's new economic policy ahead of the May general elections, and the job seekers grant is one of the party's major plans.

"The conversion of these grants would require recipients to actively seek work opportunities or show evidence of intention to start a small business and provide evidence to the Department of Social Development to continue receiving the grant.
