SA car sales | Polo Vivo start year on a high, Swift makes big splash in Top 10

accreditation

The Volkswagen Polo Vivo was the best-selling passenger car for the first month of 2020, but the overall sales figures are not anything to write home about.

At the end of January, the Vivo amassed a sales figure of 2811 units for the month. That puts it way clear of the second placed Volkswagen Polo, of which only 1761 units were sold. The Ford EcoSport placed third on 1132 units, followed by the Renault Kwid on 1010 units.

In fifth place is the Toyota Corolla Quest, albeit the outgoing model. The Quest sold an impressive 998 units. In a surprising turn of events, the Suzuki Swift opened its 2020 account in a big way. It sold a very commendable 824 units.

The Volkswagen T-Cross managed 764 units, ahead of the Ford Figo on 722 units.

Hyundai’s Grand i10 sold 697 units, while the Toyota Etios (622 units) round out the top ten.

Note: A regular contender in our monthly top 10 sellers, the Toyota Fortuner, managed 611 units in January 2020. It’s our opinion that the big SUV will bounce back into the top-sellers list.
