PICS! Huge sinkhole swallows car in Cape Town

Cape Town - Two men were left rattled when their vehicle was swallowed by a huge sinkhole in Cape Town.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Burwood and Gordon road in Crawford on Saturday (August 20), according to a Facebook post on the Rondebosch East, Lansdowne, Kenwyn, Sybrand Park & Crawford Communities page.

According to the Daily Voice, no injuries were reported but the 61-year-old passenger required assistance to exit the dangling vehicle. The only visible damage to Kia Picanto was to its left fender.

Hoisted out of the hole

According to a witness, a community member had placed three cones around an area of the road where he believed a sinkhole would appear.

The witness said minutes later, the ground gave way, causing the Kia to drop into the crevice. A tow truck was called to hoist the stranded vehicle.
