WATCH: The new Audi A4 range

 • Best-selling A4 range moves into step with latest Audi design language

 • Fully connected and with new MMI touch display

 • Electrification with mild hybrid technology enhances comfort and efficiency

 • S4 TDI combines V6 TDI engine with electric compressor and 48-volt main electrical system for the first time

A more streamlined look and a more contemporary feel – the German automaker has launched an updated A4 range that moves into step with the latest additions to the Audi family in terms of design and technology and anchors the broad spread of sedan, avant and All-Road models even more firmly in the vanguard of the compact executive class.

The range is also notable for including high performance S4 variants that travel under TDI power for the first time in the model’s history, and also do so with the benefit of the same independent electric compressor technology that brought the SQ7 so much critical acclaim.

History of an Audi icon

25 years ago, the first Audi A4 drove off the assembly line in Ingolstadt. Since then, the brand with the Four Rings has produced more than 7.5-million units of the model.

A quarter of a century after its birth, demand is unabated for the A4, now in its fifth generation. With 344 586 units sold in 2018, the A4 is the world’s most popular model of the Four Rings.

Approximately every fifth Audi delivered worldwide today comes from this series. In South Africa, the A4 remains the best-selling model for the brand on local soil. Since its launch 25 years ago, the model has contributed to just under 110 000 sales for Audi in South Africa.

The A4 set new standards when it went into production in 1994 as the successor to the Audi 80 series. With its elegance, sportiness and comfort, it quickly impressed customers all over the world. The model became a bestseller in its first full year of production in 1995, when more than 272 052 units drove off the production line.
