Toyota opted to endow its big Land Cruiser 200 with more technology and gadgets.
The Land Cruiser is a regular contender in Wheels24’s new vehicle sales report, consistently running in the top three best-selling large luxury SUVs. Admittedly, the Land Cruiser 200 is not as posh as the Range Rover or BMW X5, but it remains a formidable product with near-unrivalled driving traits for any terrain.
Now Toyota decided to fit the Land Cruiser 200, in VX-R guise, with a raft of technologies and gadgets that will surely increase its appeal in the South African market.
One of the few things that remained on the LC 200, is its engine. The 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8 unit develops 195kW and 650Nm – the latter available between 1600 – 2600rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Raft of changes
The LC 200 VX-R is now fitted with a 14-speak JBL Premium sound system and a Rear Seat Entertainment system. These include two 29cm screens that’s been incorporated into the front headrests, as well as rear multimedia inputs and a four-zone climate control.
Toyota says that the rest of specifications remain intact, along with the automaker’s Safety Sense. Safety Sense, according to Toyota, provides adaptive cruise control, lane departure assist, and blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert.
Toyota also notes that customers now have the option of two interior colours – either black or beige – on the LC 200 VX-R grade. For the exterior, Sparkling Black Pearl replaces Attitude Black, whilst Midnight Blue and Sunset Dune have been discontinued. A total of six exterior colours are available.
