Franschhoek is known for a lot of things. The beautiful mountain ranges, the town with its timeless character, the infamous pass, and stately cars like a Bentley.
Bentley? Yes, a slew of Flying Spurs, mind you!
The new Bentley Flying Spur was launched internationally sometime in 2019 and, while only a few media representatives attended the event, the local motoring fraternity was in a buzz over this new model.
Come 2020 and a few of these machines were spotted in Franschhoek by Create by Chawe’s Cayne Philander.
The cars, all fitted with British number plates, were parked in the small town. As we can gather, the cars were on the road leading up to the Pass. Perhaps having a moment's rest after rumbling through the sweeping bends.
The new model
The new Bentley Flying Spur retains its famous 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine. Maximum power stands at a hair-raising 467kW and a massive torque of 900Nm. An all-wheel-drive system takes care of managing all that power, while an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox does transfer duties.
Top speed? A claimed 333km/h, and zero to 100km/h sprint takes a mere 3.7 seconds, says the automaker.
The Flying Spur offers seating for five passengers and tips the scale at a lofty 2437kg. But as we know Bentley, you're unlikely to feel the weight between your hands thanks to that 'Crewe magic'.
For those interested in fuel efficiency (not that it should matter), Bentley is yet to release its claimed fuel figures for the local market, but the fuel tank is a full 90 litres in size.
The new Bentley Flying Spur is due to launch during sometime during Q1 as previously revealed by the local automaker, but since these cars are already here, we reckon the South African launch will be imminent.
