While we all know that the Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Polo Vivo were two of 2019’s best selling vehicles, just how did they compare, in terms of sales, against other vehicles in our best-selling lists?
In total, almost 470 000 new cars and bakkies were sold in 2019, of which the Hilux and Vivo accounted for 70 500 units. Combined. That’s just under 7% of the total market share!
According to Naamsa, only four vehicles (cars and bakkies) sold more than 20 000 units in 2019: Hilux (40 934), Vivo (29 618), Ford Ranger (25 042), and the Volkswagen Polo (22 249).
Of the top ten vehicles in the below list, only the Ford EcoSport failed to surpass 10 000 units, having an aggregated sales figure of 9802 units.
2020 might not see the record books being set alight in terms of sales figures, but the Hilux and Vivo will surely continue their dominance.
