BMW SA has announced the roll out of additional Efficient Dynamics technologies for the 3 Series range of sedans, coupes and convertibles.
Although BMW’s Efficient Dynamics range of gadgets is not new to the range, models such as the 320d, 323i, 325i and 330i now strike a finer balance between performance and economy. The entry-level 320i adds Efficient Dynamics upgrades and will join the group from 2011.
Changes include brake energy regeneration for all 3 Series sedans except the 335i and 330d, an automatic coupler for the climate control compressor and, on the six-cylinder models, map-controlled oil pumps. However, all six-cylinder 3 Series models have featured the on-demand operation of ancillary units since 2005.
The 320d with manual transmission comes with a gear-shift indicator showing the best time to change up or down, resulting in a drop in fuel consumption from 5.4 litres/100km to 4.7.
Similar reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are reported across the range, excluding 335i and 330d units.
The most notable change to the range is, of course, the reduction in CO2 emissions and the resultant drop in carbon tax payable on these cars.
BMW 3 Series prices start from R308 000 for the 320i Start with manual transmission.
