20-year-old Lando Norris has scored more than half the number of points in the opening races of this Formula 1 season than in all 20 races in 2019.

The McLaren driver scored his first ever podium at the opening race in Austria on July 5, and then scored a fifth-place in the Styrian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The only drivers ahead of Norris on the drivers' standings are Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Last Sunday the British driver put in the fastest lap of the race (earning an extra point) on the final lap and capped off an unbelievable weekend to sneak in ahead of Hamilton and onto the third step of the podium.

Norris started in ninth position on Sunday and again left the best for last as came home a remarkable fifth for McLaren after passing both Racing Points cars during a thrilling final lap.

It's brilliant to see brave driving from the younger generation of drivers and Norris has gained many fans for the raw emotion he shows during races.

Norris is 11 points behind Hamilton and eight points ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The F1 circus heads to Hungary next Sunday for the third race in a row.

Wheels24's Janine Van der Post says: "Lewis Hamilton might have had a stellar drive and an even more remarkable qualifying session on Saturday ahead of the Styrian Grand Prix, but the mid-filed battle is where all the action was in Sunday's race. I could barely contain my banshee screams as Lando Norris gave his McLaren horns!

"All week, I had gone back and watched the emotional reaction of the McLaren garage during the season-opening race last week when Lando claimed the first podium result of his career. The hard work of the entire team had finally paid off.

"McLaren has improved their form and now have cars that are allowing their drivers to gain more points than they could even have thought of in 2019.

"Norris has exceptional talent, yet he is still so humble. His tenacity on track is admirable, and he is one to look out for, yet he could still sweetly wish his baby sister, who he calls 'Siskins', a happy birthday during his interview."

The McLaren driver has outscored his team mate Carlos Sainz who has only scored 13 points. For now, enjoy Norris' final two laps of the Styrian GP:
