According to speculation in F1 circles, the request came after team owner Alex Shnaider - a naturalised Canadian - lined up potential Canadian sponsors to attend the impending race in Montreal.

With 'on loan' Renault tester Franck Montagny at the wheel, Jordan broke the 'Friday' regulations at the Nurburgring by testing too many tyres.

It is thought unlikely that the FIA will grant Jordan's request.
