'My RCZ has not set a foot wrong' - These readers share their love for Peugeot cars

Earlier in April, Wheels24 contributor Robin Classen wrote an article about the Peugeot RCZ which we hardly see on local roads any longer.

The RCZ was a fantastic little two-door from the French automaker which didn't find much success in South Africa. It's one of those brands which is highly underrated here in our local market, and it's unfortunate because they produce some fantastic vehicles.

The Peugeot 5008, which was recently a finalist in the 2020 SA Car of the Year competition is one of my most favourite vehicles available locally. Not only is it a seven-seater, but it's a beautiful SUV loaded with standard goodies and technologies. Most importantly, it's rather frugal too for such a large car, yet it doesn't get the attention it deserves from buyers searching for a vehicle in this segment. And sadly, that's the general consensus for the entire brand. Perhaps a big fat injection for some marketing could assist in this regard.

READ: If there's one car you don't see on the road anymore, its this one

Sean Kemp
is a Wheels24 reader who falls in the opposite scale of the spectrum, and one who adores the brand and its cars.

Responding to our article about the RCZ, Kemp said: "I read your article with a smile as many of the observations are true.

"I own a 2011 RCZ with about 92000km on the clock, and it has not set a foot wrong during the past two years of ownership.

"The car still attracts a lot of attention in traffic with many necks snapping around trying to figure out what type of car it is. I've not grown tired of this!

"Despite the lack of rear seats, the boot is very commodious, and the cabin is quite roomy.

Are there any other cars you can think of that went off the radar in recent years? Or, do you own a classic Peugeot or any other older vehicle you can tell us about? Email us your photos and stories and we'll publish it on Wheels24.

"Having owned a 308 GTi before this, I am delighted with the performance of the RCZ as the car is about 150kg lighter.

"The only problem I have is that there is still a stigma attached to the Peugeot brand, which is entirely unjustified. The three PSA cars that I've owned in the last seven years have been fantastic!"

Jacques Fouche is another Wheels24 and RCZ-owner who had responded to the article about his car.

Fouche says: "I bought a 2010 RCZ two years ago. It's the most beautiful car but has the worst engine and workmanship I have ever experienced. It's very sad as it's an amazing car to drive.

"It's also very expensive to maintain, as I have spent about R110 000 on the car in the past two years.

"The resale value is obviously terrible, and parts are very difficult to come by. I was without my RCZ for four months just waiting on parts.

"Yet, I will never sell her."
