Cape Town - Earlier in May, Wheels24 reported on a driver's quick reactions saved them from a  potential armed robbery and/or hijacking. The video was published on YouTube.

Wheels24 reader Lindiwe Maseko shares her harrowing experience:

Maseko says: I am a 40-year-old female and I stay in Boksburg, Johannesburg. One night in 2015, around 9pm, I was hijacked at gun point..

I was driving home from a family funeral one Friday night. When I got home, I parked the car and walked up to my front door. As I was about to open the door, an unfamiliar red van pulled up in my driveway and a man jumped out and ran towards me!

As he was charging towards me, I noticed him cocking the gun and realised that if I want my life spared, I'd have to give him my car.

On that night four cars had been reported hijacked in our area. Three of the cars were recovered in the next few days, but not mine. My car had a tracker installed, but the hijackers had to disconnect it because no signal could be retrieved.

Three weeks later police recovered my vehicle after it had been as the getaway vehicle in an attempted robbery.

After numerous counselling sessions since the harrowing experience, the car, every time I looked at it or drove it, reminded me of that terrible night. I sold my car recently, as the emotional scars of what happened are still just too raw.

Fortunately, when my car was recovered, four thieves were arrested.
