At 1.96m, my friends always laugh when I get out of this car - and I don’t blame them. Well, I may have bought it, but it’s for the Bird. I can’t stop driving it though.

The Bird needed a little "cute" runabout and I immediately thought Z4. She said no. The S2000 was not cool enough for her and I was never going to put a Mercedes-Benz SLK in my garage. I have never thought of the Boxster as a proper Porsche, it’s for wannabe Porsche drivers, therefore after much deliberating, this was the alternative.

Cautious at first, but two minutes after driving it, I was sold. The power delivery on this Audi TT 2.0T FSI is incredible, you can’t even feel the turbo kicking in, especially on a long stretch of road.

Set it on cruise control and the ride is effortless, you can even doze off behind the wheel. This engine feels like it has way more than the 147 kW that Audi claims, closer to 220 kW is what I think. The brakes… Wow, they really do their job. Handling is the best I have ever experienced from a front-wheel driven car, simply precise and direct. In-gear acceleration is breathtaking.

Inside the build quality is of the highest standard and it is a copy of the R8, but who cares, I love the leather bucket seats and low seating position. The sound system is great and there is hardly any road noise in the cabin. Driving long distances may be a problem for your spine though, the suspension is quite firm.

The let down

The biggest let down is the lack of space inside. Those rear seats are just for five to ten year olds, grown men would never fit in there. If I sit in the back, then nobody can sit in front of me. Those seats are good for groceries, I guess.  Boot space is more than adequate for this car.

This is a great car from Audi, even though my heart lies with the “M” beast from Bavaria that is my daily commute. But I can’t stay away from this car; even operating the spoiler manually is fun.

Great package from Audi and that exhaust tone compliments the car well. I will continue abusing this car on weekends for a long time to come and have not regretted this purchase. This is one of those cars you have to drive in order to fully understand and appreciate.
