Reader: VW's angel ad is 'is damaging'

Wheels24 reader MELITTA OBEREM belives that Volkswagen's Super Bowl advert 'is extremely damaging!'. Read her comments on VW's 'sexist' ad row.

Volkswagen caused an uproar at the Super Bowl with its new ad. Some believed it was "arrogant and sexist". The video posted on Volkswagen's YouTube channel reads: "Watch as a father tells his daughter that every time a Volkswagen hits 100 000km, a German Engineer gets his wings.

YouTube readers have slated the commercial as "sexist" saying VW doesn't employ female engineers.

VIDEO: VW's angelic Super Bowl ad

Wheels24 reader MELITTA OBEREM shared her thoughts:

The most worrying factor is that the advert had to be approved and signed off by VW's head office.

It is obvious that it was either intentional (which in this era is disturbing) or there were actually no women on the approval panel which would corroborate VW as sexist and arrogant in more than one way.

In the automotive industry there are many women engineers and they have proved to be more accurate and meticulous. This advert is extremely damaging!

Lucky for me, as a woman in a mans world, I drive a Mercedes-Benz C 350 with AMG sports pack. Imagine if I had a VW product? Would have had to sell it!
