Hand-knotted carpet sellers in Turkey's Manisa lay their products down on city streets for 15 days and allow cars to drive over them.

The unique carpeting technique might sound totally crazy at first but it is in fact a key part of the process to enhance its overall appeal and value.

Frowned upon at first

At first, many residents didn't know the reason behind the collection of mats laid bare on the road but eventually found the reason behind it.

Once the 15 day period has elapsed, the mats are then washed, prepared and sent across Europe and the United States where they are sold for the equivalent of R7 000 to R14 000.
