A Chinese carpenter took charge of his dream of owning a sports car by making use of his carpentry skills and building a wooden sports car at his home.

According to Ruptly, 62-year-old Sun from from the Chinese city of Kaiyuan, took eight years to complete the majestic automotive sculpture, spending ¥200 000 (equivalent to about R27 000) in total.

Never too late

In a bid to realise his dream, he sold hand-made wooden bikes to raise money for the Mercedes-Benz to take shape - quite literally.

Except for mechanical components like the chassis and engine, the car is entirely made of wood and can reach speeds of 80-90km/h. The hooter and radio are also fully-operational.

With the high attention to detail, no expense has been spared. The gear lever, spare wheel well and badge has been crafted to unbelievable standards.
