• A drag race with a difference.
• A tuned BMW M5 takes on an outrageously souped-up Nissan GT-R, and a bog standard Ducati VR4.
• The VR4 weighs 193 kilograms in comparison to the GT-R's 1800kg estimated weight.
Have you heard about the one with a super sedan, super car and super bike in a drag race? Well, you're about to. The team at Carwow has brought together a tuned BMW M5 F10, a R35 Nissan GT-R and a standard Ducati VR4.
It's an interesting line up and one that shows just how fast modern performance cars are. The M5 has been tuned to deliver close to 600kW and almost 1000Nm, in normal guise the power is 460kW and 750Nm from its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
The M5 runs a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and power is sent to all four wheels. The F10 model was the first M5 iteration to have all-wheel drive, however it can be switched to rear-drive mode only.
This M5 weighs just under two tons and tips the scales at 1950 kilograms.
The GT-R's numbers are even more insane, according to Carwow it has 1193kW and 1500Nm. The 3.8-litre turbocharged V6-powered Nissan usually puts out between 400kW and 450kW, it uses a six-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels.
This isn't any GT-R, the engine has been bored out to 4.1-litres and weighs around 1800kg.
The feather in the room
Are the M5 and GT-R's macho numbers just that, numbers? Because the Ducati VR4 weighs just 193kg, granted the rider weighs 70kg. But even so, it's on the other end of the scale compared to the four-wheeled machines it's up against.
It's also a fascinating exercise to see which of the drivers can launch their cars properly or will the Ducati cream them off the line and walk away with the victory.
The Ducati is powered by a 998cc four-cylinder engine in a V configuration and produces 164kW and 112Nm. So, can a bike with the power of a Golf GTI beat a tuned super sedan and outrageously souped-up GT-R?
Carwow says: "It’s time for a drag race with a difference! Mat’s lining up in the Evolve-tuned BMW M5 Competition, which produces a mega 596kW and 950Nm of torque! Think that’s impressive? Trust us, that’s nothing… The Nissan GT-R alongside him puts down an astronomical 1193kW and 1500Nm!"
"So with stats like that, we had to bring in a competitor with a difference. Which is why our third and final competitor is the Ducati Panigale V4R!! It’s powered by a 998cc V4 motor which produces 164kW and 112Nm. Doesn’t sound like much, but don’t forget it only weighs 193kg!"
