Earlier in May, Wheels24 ran an article on the Honda S2000 and why a successor will probably never see the light of day.

It’s sad because the S2000 was one of the best handling sports cars of its time; if not of all time. It had a unique balance, and steering inputs were crisp and direct. It was, of course, aided by the rear-wheel-drive setup.

Production of the S2000 ended in 2009 and owners who purchased one over the production period are reluctant to part with their favourite Honda. If one wants to acquire one of these sports cars, a few are floating around on the second-hand market. And because they are collector’s items, they do carry a bit of a premium.

We came across three examples of the Honda S2000 on AutoTrader and were left stunned at the price tags. This is where you, the reader and S2000 fundi, come in: Are these prices justifiable? And what are you willing to pay?

Have you ever experienced the drive of a Honda S2000? Or, do you own one? Email us with your story and photos, we'd love to publish your thoughts.

Three examples

The Honda S2000 was produced from 1999 to 2009. Throughout this period, it is estimated that Honda sold more than 110 000 units, globally. This is impressive, given that some cars never realise these kinds of figures over decades of production.

While there are many more on sale in South Africa, the three vehicles listed on AutoTrader are from the 2007 and 2004 model years, priced from R249 900 to R329 900. What undoubtedly influences the price of these cars, especially the latter, is the covered mileage. The two more affordable options have 127 000km and 170 000km on their respective odometers, while the third car has only covered 68 540km.

While the S2000 is a rare breed, these prices are perhaps representative of how in-demand the car is.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the asking prices are too high? Or is it what you can expect from a car this special?
