The best sounding drag race ever? Lexus LF-A takes on the Audi R8 V10 Spyder

Two of the best sounding naturally-aspirated supercars line up for a drag race.

The Lexus LFA and Audi R8 both sport V10 motors.

The supercar game has moved on considerably since the outrageous Lexus LFA was launched almost 10 years ago. With the exception of the Gordon Murray Automotive T50, almost every new supercar features forced induction. 

Yes, this means faster and more powerful cars but they don't sound as good and they don't rev as high as the naturally-aspirated powered cars of yesteryear.

Two of my favourites are the LFA and a car I've been fortunate to drive several times, the Audi R8. The Japanese supercar is powered by a V10 engine with 426kW and 480Nm. Crucially, the front mid-mounted 4.8-litre motor red lines to 9000r/min with peak power reached at 8700r/min.

Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed automated manual gearbox. 

It has a kerb weight of 1614 kilograms and was only in production for two years, ending in 2012. Funnily enough it was a project that took ages to come to fruition, the concept made its debut way back at the 2005 Frankfurt motor show. 

The Audi R8 is the brand's halo supercar and is currently in its second generation. The model taking on the LFA is the soft-top Spyder model, I've been privileged enough to have driven both the hard top and cabriolet models and can attest to its powerful V10 engine's prowess. 

The Audi sports a larger capacity 5.2-litre motor in comparison to the LFA's 4800cc engine. The Audi's kerb weight is 1770kg, naturally heavier than the LFA due to its four-wheel drive system. 

The Audi boasts more torque than the LFA with a mighty 540Nm from its V10 engine.

And now it's time to watch arguably two of the best sounding supercars line up in this drag race between the Lexus LF-A and the Audi R8 V10 Spyder.
