Petrol vs Electric - Which car is the fastest in a drag and sprint race?

The prominence of electric cars are on the rise as more and more people are making the switch from combustion.

The almost instantaneous availability of on-tap power is one massive advantage electric cars have over their combustion counterparts. Petrol cars can bring up the valid point that they can drive anywhere without having to be charged at specific ranges.

A bit of electric insight

Select Car Leasing created a cool interactive drag race and 0-100km/h sprint between 30 of the fastest cars in the world to see who comes out on top. You'll be surprised who the winner is.

Nine of the 30 fastest cars in the world over a 400m distance now all-electric or hybrids, demolishing the myth that electric cars are slow to drive.

Even though electric cars accelerate much faster than petrol cars, they lack the necessary top speed which the petrol versions possess.

If you've played the game or checked the results below, petrol cars come out on top in a drag race with the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and Bugatti Veyron Super Sport completing a quarter mile in 9.65 and 9.7 seconds respectively.

A cleaner future

It is a different case in a sprint race however, where electric cars dominate proceedings with the Porsche 918 Spyder and Tesla Model S P100D Ludicrous topping the list.

There is no hesitation in saying that the world is moving to a greener future with many automakers like BMW, Porsche and Audi having jumped onto the all-electric bandwagon.

It might not be right now but soon petrol cars will be less prevalent on roads across the country, tipping the balance further in favour of the electric car.
