It's about time that Hollywood remade one of the most memorable and iconic races in motorsport history.
The headline hits the plot right on the head as it follows the rivalry between the two manufacturers, Ford and Ferrari, after a merge deal falls through. This is the catalyst that sparks a rivalry that sets the tone for the movie, while also following the life of British racer, Ken Miles.
A definite must-watch
Right from the start you are pulled into the life of one of motorsport's pioneers, Carroll Shelby, played by Matt Damon. The first 30 minutes takes a while to get going though, but it's plain sailing from there as you are gradually introduced to the ensemble cast and the characters they portray.
Besides Henry Ford II's determination to eclipse Ferrari at Le Mans, the audience gets some insight into the life of Miles, his wife Mollie, and son Peter as they battle financial difficulties and also Miles' love for racing.

You get to know the people and decision makers behind the scenes at both Ford and Ferrari, and how they really were back then. Ford II took zero nonsense from anyone - he even calls James Bond a 'degenerate'. Generally, with these type of movies, the facts can sometimes become far-fetched but that is not the case here.

From Matt Damon's Carroll Shelby-like perm to the near-perfect reconstruction of the famous GT40, Hollywood really did their homework here. Unlike earlier Fast and the Furious movies, the racing here looks real and well thought out.
While its almost impossible to find actors that look just like the person they portray, Ford vs Ferrari comes mighty close in doing so; especially with Bale who plays Miles. American racing driver Alex Gurney plays the role of his father Dan in the movie, which is a cool touch.
You are engulfed in what happened at Le Mans in '66, and seeing how these people built cars and ran businesses pales in comparison to how everything is done today.
Ford entered eight GT40s in the race clinching first, second and third places to become the first American automaker to win the world’s most famous endurance race.
