Earlier this week, Wheels24 reported on a story detailing the future of Jaguar's F-Type. The sports car, Jaguar's first in a very long time, arrived locally in 2014 and has continued to capture the imaginations (and wallets!) of fans of the brand - both new and old.

For 2020, Jaguar brought a heavily revised car to market that should see it through until an entirely new model arrives. And it is this model that's been topic of much debate in the office.

In our article, we note that Jaguar could look at two paths for the next-generation F-Type, or maybe even consider merging these two paths into one. On the one hand, Jaguar could continue to power its F-Type with an internal combustion engine, or, on the other, the sports car could be electrified. Alternatively, hybridization remains an option.

Engines as we know it

Wheels24 reader, Santosh Gunpath, responded to our article made it clear that he believes the F-Type should continue with petrol engines as we know it, or retire altogether.

Gunpath wrote: I read your article with interest. Being a fan of the F-Type since launch, it is - in my opinion - one of the top five on my list of beautifully crafted machines!

The F-Type has always sold itself - and with good reason - on its distinctive sound. The cold-start sound made by the V8 is to die for, and I'll pay the money for that car just for that sound alone. Irrespective of how good the sound system is designed to emulate the sound of an internal combustion engine, an EV (electric vehicle) will never replicate it.

But to be honest, the internal combustion engine is on it's way out, and it won't be long until the engine as we know it is gone completely. This represents the demise of 125 years of human engineering. Personally, I'd like to see the F-Type remain faithful to its heritage and rather 'retire' instead of being replaced with something different like an electric car.

I'm sure E-Type's all over the world are turning in their graves as we speak!
