Earlier in February, a video of a car crash broke the internet. And while things could have turned out bad for the occupants, they can be lucky to have escaped with no injuries.

As can be concluded from the video, a group of friends set off in a Volkswagen Golf MK1. The 44-second video took off on social media like a veld fire, but not for the reason you might think.

‘Dimitri, urghhh!’

Upon setting off, listeners can hear the driver struggling to get the car into gear. He eventually picks up speed and steadily increases it. Suddenly, the vehicle veers to the left before rolling over. Wheels24 heard from a reliable source who can not be named, that the car was only traveling between 60- to 80km/h.

Just before the roll takes place, one of the passengers is heard screaming: "Dimitri, urghhh!" and the driver replies "Brakes failed, bru'.

The internet, of course, exploded with a bunch of meme videos and it has left local petrolheads in stitches.

While we don't condone any reckless driving or speeding, it's evident that the car was not going very fast at all, nor was he doing anything wrong.

Wheels24 has made several attempts to speak to the driver, but he has refrained from commenting on the video or the incident.

Wheels24's Janine Van der Post says: "I remember how passionate I used to be about my cars during my younger days. I had no responsibility for a bond or that of being a mother and wife, hence all my money, time, and effort went into my vehicle. I used to be so pedantic about my Toyota Corolla 20V RSI that I would buy original parts from the dealership to service it every 1000km or every three months, even though I hardly drove it. And, I made several modifications to all of my cars to make it "Cape Town stock-standard" as we used to say. It was a pricey exercise.

"While everyone is having a good laugh, the owner is sitting with a wrecked car which needs to be fixed. And that is a shame."

It's gone viral!

Whilst harrowing, the incident itself was not what everyone is talking about, so we have decided not to post the original video but rather the commentary which has been used in various meme-clips. "JarreDimitri" will sadly be the funniest thing amongst local car-lovers for now... until something else happens.
