Golf GTI not hot enough? Perhaps 283kW and 510Nm will interest you

The Volkswagen Golf GTI may not be the most powerful hot hatch in its segment, but it’s shown that a lot of power is not the be all and end all in driving enjoyment.

Well, tell that to Mountune who took the GTI under hand and gave it a good dose of extra power. How much power? 114kW, to be exact.

Mountune fitted the Golf R’s turbocharger to the GTI’s engine to produce the insane amount of power.

Two-stage tuning

But the GTI didn’t get its 283kW after just one visit to Mountune. The first stage of the engine modification saw the standard power outputs increase from 169kW/350Nm to 228kW/475Nm – the same as the Golf R, put torque is up 75Nm.

The second stage saw Mountune fit the Golf R’s turbocharger to the GTI’s engine, which saw power increase even further to 283kW and 510Nm. That is insane!
