Another week, another drag race. These races are becoming particularly interesting as they pit the latest high-tech sports cars against each other.
The protagonists are a trio of two-door, four-seat performance cars with wings, massive exhaust pipes and large air inlet scoops.
First up is the Porsche 911 Turbo S, in the latest 992 iteration of the model it'll reach a top speed of 330km/h. Its 3.8-litre engine features a pair of VGT turbochargers produces 51kW more than its predecessor to peak at a dizzying 478kW and 800Nm, 50Nm more than before.
The Turbo S has been on sale since May, with the the Coupé and Cabriolet priced at R3 771 000 and R3 956 000, respectively.
Next up is another German, the BMW M8 Competition. It is powered by the most powerful M engine yet, featuring a high-revving 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology developing 441kW and 750Nm, and a massive 460kW in the competition models.
Like other M models, the M8 adopts an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, and the engine's power is channeled to the road via an all-wheel-drive system.
Last but not least is the Nissan GT-R. But this isn't any ordinary GT-R, in fact there might not be a stock standard R35 GT-R left, but a Liberty Walk GT-R. It produces 484kW in tuned form and of course has the four-wheel drive and launch control system.
The BMW and the Porsche are also all-wheel-drive machines with the latter boasting a 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.7 seconds. Perhaps even more impressive is that it'll hit 200km/h in under nine seconds from standstill.
The Porsche uses an eight-speed PDK 'box to swop gears with ferocious pace.
The BMW on the other hand uses a conventional torque converter gearbox with eight forward speeds and boasts a claimed 0 to 100km/h time of 3.2 seconds.
The M8 uses a V8 engine with two turbos while the Porsche and Nissan are both powered by six-cylinders. Who will win this sports car drag race? Well, watch the clip below. Oh, did we mention it was raining?
