General Grabber: Off-road tyres for every terrain

Port Elizabeth – General Tyre is expanding its presence in the highly competitive 4x4 and SUV market in South Africa with a broader product range, in line with the brand’s renewed focus on the local market.

The General Grabber GT is the latest addition to the line-up, offering a tyre specially developed for the latest generation of fast and powerful sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and 4x4s. It joins the proven Grabber AT all-terrain offering and the rugged Grabber MT mud-terrain tyre to provide a complete range suited to all of the popular all-terrain segments in SA– and truly lives up to the brand’s underlying philosophy: ‘Anywhere is Possible’.

Unrivaled off-road ability

“The General Tyre off-road range combines a proud heritage in the 4x4 segment with the latest cutting-edge technology to deliver true off-road capability, reliability and performance,” says Niel Langner, marketing manager for Continental Tyre SA. “The Grabber AT is already an established winner in the all-terrain segment, having dominated a leading independent magazine’s tyre shootout.

The Grabber MT was only launched last year, but has already earned an enviable reputation for unrivalled performance in the hard-core off-road segment. “With the addition of the new Grabber GT, which is designed for the rapidly growing number of high-performance SUVs, we are able to cover all of the important markets with a comprehensive and exceptionally capable range,” Langner says.

General Grabber GT The all-new Grabber GT has been specifically developed for the growing number of high-powered SUVs and off-road vehicles, with the focus on high levels of safety and performance on dry and wet roads, along with precise handling, fuel efficiency and comfort. With a 100 percent on-road bias, it employs an asymmetric tread design with closed, massive blocks incorporating 3D sipes, which creates a sturdy tread block structure for top-class handing.

Capable on dry and wet surfaces

The stiffness of the outer tread areas means steering commands are precisely transmitted. This generates a well-balanced pattern structure, resulting in outstanding handling characteristics on both dry and wet surfaces. For a road tyre, the new Grabber GT has a large number of tread blocks and grip edges, which ensures good interlock between tread and road surface.

The result is predictable, safe on-road braking performance in the dry and the wet. The harmonious tread structure and closed shoulder blocks deliver high levels of driving comfort by significantly reducing external rolling noise during the whole lifecycle of the tyre. It also ensures even wear due to the equal stiffness across the entire tread pattern, which gives the Grabber GT high-mileage capability.
