INFOGRAPHIC: The most searched for bikes in South Africa

2017-02-17 06:01

Once you are bitten by the biking bug, it is difficult not to indulge in the best that is out there. Biking is a lifestyle, a culture, and, for many, their bike becomes like an extra appendage – part of their everyday lives. Just like most things, every province in South Africa has their preferences, whether it’s a road bike or off-road adventure bike.

We have collated the most searched bikes in every region of South Africa using research compiled by AutoTrader SA, and the results may surprise you. From Gauteng to Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal to Mpumalanga, to find out what your region’s must-have bike is – the one desired above all else in each province.

Take a look at the most popular bike in your province:

The Eastern Cape, Gauteng and Mpumalanga favour the popular BMW R1200GS with the engine of 1170cc and a top speed of 210km/h.BMW GS is the sporting star of BMW motorcycles and the BMW enduro R1150 GS was famously known as the choice of motorcycle for Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman for their roadtrip Long Way Around and Long Way Down. BMW is known for creating sturdy, long-lasting bikes in the adventure touring category of motorcycle, and it’s no surprise with the extra power and space the R1200 provides that it’s a top choice in many provinces in SA. The latest 2017 model of this ultra-popular boxer-powered adventure tourer gets updated standard and optional electronics, as well as a facelift.

The Kwazulu-Natal and Western Cape are fans of the series of Honda CBR. All CBR motorbikes, with the exception of the single-cylinder models (CBR125R, CBR150R, CBR250R, and CBR300R) have inline engines. 2017 marks 25 years for the Honda Fireblade – a quarter of a century since the original CBR900RR came onto the scene in 1992 and changed the motorcycle world forever, putting litrebike power into a lightweight chassis only a shade heavier than the 600cc supersports of its day. The new model, the CBR1000RR, has a stunning and sleek design, has a four-cylinder in-line engine and a programmed dual-stage fuel injection with 48mm throttle bodies, more power, less weight, new electronics and more (including the first titanium fuel tank on a production bike).

A good way to figure out whether BMW R1200 or Honda CBR is better matching your personal style and requirements is to compare their specifications and features in details. Your choice of motorcycle should be all about your individual preferences and comfort level and what you plan to use your bike for – off-road weekend adventures or for a daily commute?
