Increasing numbers of South Africans are turning to online platforms to do their new and used vehicle shopping. But with so many potential buyers scrolling away, it’s easy for your post to get overlooked and for your sale to lag even longer.

Luckily there’s a secret weapon that’ll set your post apart from others. No, it’s not a poetic description or a thought-provoking headline or even that impressive car wax you bought on a whim. It’s simply great photos.

From sneaky side angles to great lighting, a well-constructed photo can really make or break your sale. According to Jeff Osborne of Gumtree Automotive, the better the quality of the picture and the content of the ad, the less unsure your buyer will feel. “Photographs are the foundation of your listing and should be of a good quality,” he says in his blog. “The vehicle doesn’t have to be perfect, but your pictures should demonstrate the true condition of the vehicle.”

We captured the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G350 Bluetec with the new Huawei P30 Pro and found these three features to be easy hacks for taking great pictures of your car:

1. Wide-angle wonders

First thing’s first, get a nice picture of your entire car from front to back. A great way to make sure you get your entire car in one frame is through using a wide-angle lens. The Huawei P30 Pro has a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera which made it so much easier to capture this beauty in all its glory.

2. Tune in on the details with a macro-lens

Once you’ve captured the body of your car, focus on the finer details that sets your vehicle apart by using a macro lens. We used the Huawei’s Super Macro mode, which includes the ability to zoom up to 3 times, to show how you can highlight smaller features of your car.

3. Dial up on Dimensions

Last, but not least, play around with dimensions through a depth-of-field function. Unique to the Huawei P30 Pro is a ToF (time-of-flight) camera that captures depth-of-field information to deliver accurate image segmentation. By using Portrait mode, you can capture play with depth-of-field by focusing on one feature of the car while having another feature slightly blurred in the background. The camera also has an aperture mode where you can adjust the aperture to give you a portrait mode effect, if the actual Portrait mode doesn’t give you the effect you’re looking for.

Another pro tip that can easily jazz up your classified pics, is opening your car doors. This will immediately bring a stagnant image to life and give your photos some added dimensions.
