5 celebrities and the cars they endorsed

2017-08-17 06:06

Celebrities always embody #cargoals whether they are sport stars, musicians or even authors, their endorsement of a particular vehicle is seen as a type of stamp of approval.

The marketing idea of featuring celebrities in adverts has been around for decades and plays into the influence that their celebrity status has over consumers. From the point of the view of the celebrities, most say that they align themselves with brands that share their values or who have products that they would use so that their endorsement can be authentic.

Let’s take a look at some local and international celebrities and the vehicle brands that they have aligned themselves with:

1. Nomzamo Mbatha and Audi

One of South Africa’s rising stars, the Nubian Princess, Nomzamo Mbatha announced her partnership with Audi in November 2016 by featuring the German brand’s advert on her Instagram page.

2.Jude Law and Lexus

In Jude Law’s campaign with Lexus, he went above and beyond, in what was described as a London rampage by the beloved British actor. Law’s ‘live performance’ which puzzled Londoners had him defacing a painting of himself, gate crashing a jazz club performance, interrupting diners at popular restaurant Zima. For 45 minutes, remote viewers from around the world could give Law instructions that he had to follow, in order to promote the Lexus RX.

3.Nasty C and Mercedes Benz

The Hell Naw rapper, Nasty C partnered with Mercedes Benz as part of their #GrowUpYourOwnWay campaign. This campaign changed the way that the popular brand did marketing and brought the compact car into the zeitgeist of young people. Nasty C was chosen because his attitude to life is reminiscent of young adults today.

4.Thierry Henry and Renault

We were all familiar with the ‘va va voom’ slogan in the Renault Clio adverts that Thierry Henry starred in. The French footballer teamed up with the French brand to promote the popular car, and created a memorable campaign.

5.Tendai Mtawarira and Ford

More commonly known as ‘Beast’, Mtawarira, the Zimbabwean-born Springbok was announced as an ambassador for Ford in December 2016. He was gifted with a Ford Mustang 2, 3 EcoBoost FastBack with a Rousch Performance Level 2 upgrade. Ford commented about Mtawarira by saying that Ford was honoured to work with Beast.
