'Green laning' is probably not even a real word, but these vehicles certainly do it well. In simple terms, it means being able to drive on a road surface that is anything but paved - grass, mud, stone, you name it. It's no surprise that a Ford and Toyota are included in the list because those 'seasoned campaigners' are more than capable of tackling a little dirt.

Perhaps surprising is seeing Mercedes-Benz make the list with the luxury G-Class. Even though it sports a four-wheel-drive system, would you really want to put it to the test in rough terrain? And of course, this list wouldn't be complete without a Land Rover. They are considered the off-road kings by many and the latest iteration of the Defender hits the nail square on the head.

So if tar doesn't do it for you and you want to take a trip on the wild side, these 'green laners' can do the job - it's just a case of choosing which one and look good while doing it.
