Following a year’s testing in grueling conditions, Mahindra launches its Pik Up in South Africa.
Interestingly, not only did the aforementioned testing take place in some of SA’s harshest conditions, we are also the first country to officially launch the bakkie.
According to Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra SA: "South Africa is the first country in the world to officially launch the all-new Pik Up Automatic, which is only fitting, since it was the test bed for this model. There has been an overwhelming demand for an automatic transmission in our bakkie range, and we believe we have the perfect answer with the S11 and S11 Karoo AT.”
With pricing starting at R384 999, Mahindra hopes its new Pik Up will continue its growing sales success in South Africa.

New name?
Those familiar with SA’s bakkie market and Mahindra’s portfolio, will notice that the new range sees a revision in its name. The ‘Scorpio’ has been left by the wayside from 2020 onwards, and will the bakkie only be known as the Pik Up.
(Slow down, fellow grammar freaks. It’s not an error.)
In S11 guise, the Pik Up is fitted with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers Bluetooth connectivity, and various entertainment and vehicle information screens. A full-colour reverse camera is fitted as standard. The S11 has all the luxury features of the S10 model, that includes 12V power points both front and rear, auto-locking doors, one-touch front electric windows, and two airbags.

The bakkie can be specified with a six-speed manual gearbox, as well as a new six-automatic transmission. 4x2 and 4x4 options are available.
The Mahindra Pik Up has a ground clearance of 210mm, approach and departure angles of 34- and 15-degrees, respectively, and a payload of 1095kg on the 4x2 double cab models. On the 4x4 it’s 995kg.
