The Amarok, which has just been introduced in South Africa in double-cab body style, has now been shown in single-cab form.
The same length as the double-cab model on sale here, the single-cab 2.2m-long load bed allows for the loading of two pallets.
The bakkie presented at the show will be a 90kW TDI using BlueMotion technology to keep the fuel consumption down to 6.9l/100km.
VWSA says the the two-seater Amarok will be “the workhorse bakkie” compared to its more lifestyle-friendly double-cab sibling, “but it will still be comfortable”.
The latest derivative is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2011, with South Africa as one its first market launches – single cab Amaroks arrive here in the second quarter of the year. The local line-up has not been confirmed, but will include a mix of 4x2 and 4x4 models.
The single cab Amarok enjoys its debut at Frankfurt’s IAA Fair running from September 23 to 31 where it will join a range of new commercial vehicles from Volkswagen.
