Limited edition Cherokee S

Jeep will enhance its model line-up with a trio of 4x4s set to be launched later in 2012 - Grand Cherokee S Limited, Wrangler Mountain and Jeep Compass Black Edition.

Positive consumer interest in the Compass and Grand Cherokee concept cars, showcased at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, inspired the iconic off-road brand to create an all-new Compass special-edition model and a new trim level for its flagship Cherokee.

Jeep has confirmed production of the production-intent sports concept showcased at the latest Geneva auto show and has announced its introduction in Europe with the name 'S Limited'.

‘BLACKOUT’ THEME

Powering the new model is a three-litre V6 turbodiesel engine capable of 179kW at 4000 rpm and torque of 550Nm from 1800-2800rpm. The engine is paired to a five-speed auto.

The 3.0 CRD powertrain is also offered in a low-output version capable of 141kW at 4000rpm and 440Nm from 1600-2800 rpm.  The Selec-Terrain traction control system has five terrain settings and the model has gradient-descent control and hill-start assistance.

The new S Limited model also has predominately black accents throughout the cabin and on the exterior, the latter featuring a more streamlined appearance thansk to new roof moulding covers which replace the standard roof rack. The vehicle's grille surrounds are finished in black gloss with a chromedmesh grille texture.

A chromed fascia completes the front design. Black headlight bezels, liftgate light-bar and chromed exhaust tips continue the "blacked-out" theme.

The new Cherokee S Limited rides on 20" tyres and black-gloss aluminium rims.

The black theme continues through the cabin with a leather-clad steering wheel and ventilated sports seats. Carbon-fibre accents highlight the instrument panel and doors.

LATEST IN 4x4 TECH

The Limited edition has Jeep's Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case and brake traction control on both axles. The system uses sensors to determine wheel slip at the earliest possible moment and takes corrective measures. The system uses "throttle anticipate" to sense quick movement in the throttle from a stop and maximizes traction before wheelspin starts.

If some is detected, torque is routed to the axle with the most traction. The Quadra-Lift air-suspension system has five height settings capable of providing 16.5 to 27cm of ground clearance.

Standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with 30 gigs of hard-disk space and USB and aux connectivity. The S Limited trim has a dual-pane sunroof and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

Extra safety features have been added to the standard kit, among them adaptive cruise control, collision warning, blind spot and rear cross-path detection.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee S Limited will debut in September 2012.
