What do you think is South Africa's best and strongest bakkie?

We can already hear you advocating for either the Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger, raising fair and valid points as to why each one gets your vote.

And for the most part, choosing either one will not be the wrong choice. The Hilux and Ranger are proven sales champions, they both have undeniable reputations, and they are powered by the very latest of engines available to bakkies today.

Who won?!

YouTuber, allistairc123, posted a video on his channel of the two bakkies in question. In it, the Hilux and Ranger are connected by a pole that's been fitted over each bakkie's tow bar. The clip, as we can gather, was filmed in either Ireland or Scotland; given the cameraman's strong accent.

As far as we can tell, the number plates give nothing away.

Once the call is made, the two bakkies start pulling. The Ranger's driver took on a more squirmish approach, having the bakkie dance from side to side. However, judging by the footage, both drivers did not disengage Traction Control.

SA’s top sellers

Both the Hilux and Ranger are formidable sales contenders. Every month, these two bakkies, along with the Volkswagen Polo and Polo Vivo, battle it out for supremacy in SA.

The Hilux has been a sales leader for over five decades. And despite these rivals offering excellent value for money, South African consumers are reluctant to turn away from the Hilux.

Still, for the Ranger to be counted among the four best-selling vehicles overall, and as the next top-selling bakkie after the Hilux, is a feat not to be scoffed at.

It is expected, however, that the outbreak of the dreaded coronavirus in South Africa will continue to drastically affect new vehicle sales in March 2020, as well.
